About the place
Tåsinge is a small island in the South Funen Archipelago — quiet, unhurried, and unexpectedly rich in artistic life.

Vårø Contemporary is located in Bjerreby on Tåsinge, connected by bridge to Svendborg on the Danish mainland.
Tåsinge has a long tradition of artists and makers finding their way here. In Bjerreby, the village where Vårø Contemporary is based, you will also find Galleri Sisi, a ceramics workshop and gallery. Elsewhere on the island, Galleri BAK presents Danish contemporary art alongside unique Danish design and crafts, and glasMAGERNE, run by Lena Ljungar and Jesper Sødring, focuses on the art of glass. Along the country roads, small roadside stalls sell ceramics and handmade goods. A quiet but persistent creative presence that runs through the whole island.
The largest institution is Valdemars Slot, a historic castle that has reopened as a public art destination, presenting international contemporary art alongside its historical collections, with artist residencies and site-specific works as part of its programme.
Vårø Contemporary sits within this small but lively context, as an artist-run space for the experimental and the process-oriented, with a particular focus on sound and moving images.
Svendborg, a short drive across the bridge, offers everyday amenities, a train connection to Odense and the rest of Denmark, and a cultural scene of its own.
About us
Vårø Contemporary is run by artist Mina Paasche and musician Mikkel Konyher, based on the island of Tåsinge in southern Denmark.
Mina Paasche is a visual artist and filmmaker with a practice spanning installation, moving image, and lens-based work, exhibited at venues including Kunsthall Trondheim, Ars Electronica, Louisiana, and Kunsthal Charlottenborg.
Mikkel Konyher is a musician and sound artist working across ambient, experimental, and collaborative contexts, most recently on the project Pallas Kat and previously as a member of the post-rock band ilt and the punk band LSD on CIA. He holds a Master of Music degree from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen (2016) and runs his own mixing and mastering company, Hesseldahl Sound.
Together they founded Vårø Contemporary as a space for artists working with sound and moving images, a place for research, residency, and the kind of work that needs time and room to breathe.
