Autumn 2026

This autumn, Vårø Contemporary has invited Norwegian textile artist Kristin Jørgenvåg and Danish musician TIKKI to work with one of the space's founders, visual artist Mina Paasche, for a series of working sessions in the project room, developing a multi-sensory audiovisual art installation for an upcoming event at Harders in Svendborg and INSULA at Samsø.

Across several visits, the three will use the space to prepare large-scale textile works alongside projection mapping, scent, and sound — building an installation that unfolds across the senses rather than through a single medium. The project room's scale and quiet will offer room to test and layer these elements together: textile as surface and structure, light as movement, scent and sound as atmosphere.

The residency reflects Vårø Contemporary's ongoing interest in cross-disciplinary practice, bringing textile art, moving image, and music into dialogue ahead of the work's presentation.

Simon Glöde & Todd James

Spring 2026

This spring, Vårø Contemporary hosted Danish musician Simon Glöde and Australian drummer Todd James for a week-long residency in the project room, ahead of their upcoming tour across Denmark, Sweden, and Germany.

The week was dedicated to rehearsal and recording, as Simon and Todd worked to record live drums for several tracks on Simon's forthcoming album. Between sessions, they took time to be in nature, drawing on the quiet of Tåsinge and the surrounding landscape as a counterpoint to the intensity of tour preparation. The golden rapeseed field beside the house became an unexpected backdrop where they could spend afternoons filming and photographing among the blooms, capturing material alongside the music itself.

Simon and Todd returned to the project room for a few more days on their way back from the Danish and Swedish part of the tour, before continuing on to Germany, using the space once again as a point of stillness and preparation between shows.

Who was here

Simon Glöde

Simon Glöde is a German–Danish musician who left home at 15 to pursue music, later touring Europe as a working musician before a deeper call led him to India. There, he developed what he calls concert ceremonies: immersive experiences blending song with spontaneous call-and-response, rooted in presence rather than performance. Now based between India and Europe, his work translates years of live transmission into recordings described as “medicinal pop” — music made to gather people, hold space, and accompany them through meaningful chapters of life.

Todd James

Todd James is an Australian drummer based in Europe, known for his intuitive and adaptable playing across a wide range of styles. He has performed at major festivals including Lollapalooza, Melt, and Sziget, and has toured internationally with a number of acts.
